Mill Lane Conjure Up Magic Display At Driffield

u13’s made the short trip to the annual Driffield tournament on a dry but windy afternoon in East Yorkshire.

In their opening encounter, the Wizards got off to a flying start overcoming local team Driffield Dragons 3:0 with a brace from Matty Blake and an assured finish from Lloyd Bean.

In their second game, Driffield Pumas put up a sterner test, but with Adam Prince and Danny Wilson snuffing out any real threat the majority of the game was played in the Driffield half. Eventually, the pressure told as a great flowing move involving , Joe Douglas and George Addison created the opening for Harry Sadler to seal the game 1:0

Bridlington Town were next up, and their tall powerful players and more direct approach were in stark contrast to the passing style of the Wizards. Despite chances at both ends, the game ended in stalemate 0:0.

In the penultimate league encounter Will Webb put Mill Lane in front early on against Elloughton Blackburn with a powerful 20-yard drive that took the keeper by surprise.

A great save and then quick thinking by Isaac Adnitt in the Wizards goal gave Prince the opportunity to drive forwards, and his pinpoint cross was smashed home by Bean for 2:0. This soon became 3 as Blake and Wilson combined to put Douglas in the clear, and he made no mistake rounding the keeper for 3:0.

In their final league match against Courts, some neat interplay by Wise and Addison gave the latter space in the box, and he made no mistake from close range. In the second half further pressure on the Courts goal allowed Blake time to pick out Addison, and he again made no mistake to make the final score 2:0

With the top 2 playing off for the silverware Mill Lane faced Elloughton Blackburn in the final and after only 3 minutes, the Wizards went 1:0 up with Webb converting from some neat play around the box.

However, it was Elloughton, who nearly scored next as they broke clear, and it was only a great save by Adnitt, which kept the Wizards goal intact. Almost immediately Mill Lane broke to make it 2:0 as Sadler outpaced the Blackburn defence and placed his shot in the bottom corner.

In the second, half the Wizards refused to sit on their lead and continued to press but found the Blackburn keeper in fine form. However, the pressure did eventually tell as further goals from Sadler and Webb meant the Wizards lifted the trophy for the second successive year without conceding a goal.
