Dominic Usher Crashes Out at Donington Park

After holding ninth position for much of the race at Beverley rider Dominic Usher was unfortunate to clip the back of Jesse Trayler’s machine after the Kawasaki rider missed a gear.

The National Superstock 1000 race was run at Donington Park as a support event to the British round of the World Superbike Championship round where qualifying went well for him.

Instead of the usual free practice and one qualifying session there was a free practice on Friday plus two qualifying half hour sessions which gave Dom the advantage of extra track time.

Starting from 11th position on the fourth row of the starting grid Dom was up to ninth place on lap five of 12 and was circulating within a tenth of a second from Trayler and lining him up for a pass on the final lap.

But it all went wrong when Trayler missed a gear which caused Usher to catch his back wheel taking the pair down in a cloud of dust at the Old Hairpin.

Dom said:

“When you are racing at high speed in close company, if the front rider makes a mistake there is nowhere to go. I clipped Jesse’s back wheel which took us both down.”

“It’s a shame for both of us as we were looking at a top 10 result and an eighth place for me if I had got past on that final lap.”

“But that’s racing and you have to take the rough with the smooth. My bike suffered a bit of damage but nothing that can’t be rectified.”

With a four week break prior to the next round at Snetterton there is plenty of time to get the DU Racing BMW up and running before round five over the weekend of June 19-21.
