Pupils Set Benefit After 12 Riders Complete Minster Monster Bike Ride

Children Primary School are set to get smart new sports kit thanks to the efforts of 12 cyclists which included their head teacher completed a 60-mile bike ride.

Brian Stillings, Headteacher at Beverley Minster Primary School said;

“Over a year ago one of the parents at the school, Richard Baldwin asked if he could do some fund-raising for the school and wanted to do Minster Monster Bike Ride.”

“That was a year ago to the day, and because it was so successful we have done it again. This time last year we raised over £1000 through sponsorship’s and donations by parents on the playground.”

“Last year, we used it to subsidise cycling schemes and initiatives in the school. This year we are doing it to raise money to buy sports kits for the children, so they can look smarter and have a sense of affiliation with the school.”

“It’s been a really good day in contrasting to last year when it rained all day today was a really hot day, and it was windy in parts. They were very patient with me. They all had road bikes and were a very fit group.”

“I had a very heavy hybrid bike which slowed me down but nevertheless persevered. We all stuck together as a group, and they all did a marvelous job, I am indebted to everybody for their efforts.”

“The children will now get some really good sports kits and benefit as a result, so a big thank you to everyone.”

the only lady to take part in the event after rediscovering her love for cycling explained why she got involved, speaking to HU17.net Mrs. Hastings said;

“I took part as I used to cycle with my dad before I had kids, but he died eight years ago and I stopped cycling.”

“I have just started cycling occasionally recently as a friend asked me to do a charity event for St Mary’s Church and that made me remember how much I like cycling.”

“I was representing the mums of the school as the only lady. A lot of the guys were much more experienced cyclists with great bikes, but I really enjoyed the day.”

“They were all really supportive and didn’t leave me (too far) behind. I think it was important to show the kids that ladies can cycle too.”

When the riders finally did get back they were greeted by all the pupils and Beverley Minster Primary School that had all come out to clap the riders back in.
