Free Compost To Be Given Away In Beverley

Around 4,500 bags of compost are to be given away for free by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Residents will be able to go along and collect their compost at giveaway events held across the East Riding.

In you can claim your free compost on 19 May – Beverley, Annie Reed Road off Grovehill Road, HU17 0LF

People will be entitled to two free 15kg bags of compost per car, which will be placed in their vehicles by council staff.

All the compost being given away has been recycled from the garden and food waste that householders in the area have put into their brown bins.

Mike Featherby, the council’s head of streetscene services, said: “Our annual compost giveaways are a gesture from the council to say thank you to the residents of the East Riding for their efforts in recycling, especially their garden and food waste.”

The giveaways start at 4pm at each site and end when all the bags have been given away on a first come first served basis.

Residents are asked not to queue beforehand or they may be turned away for safety reasons.

  1. Don’t bother! It’s absolute gridlock!!! I only live on Grovehill and am immediately regretting making the trip….but, I’m stuck in a no turning back situation now. Not worth it for 2 piddling little bags!!!

  2. Wow! What a nice gesture from the council, to give away compost. Shame they didn’t think about the traffic choas that this caused in the area. It caused 50 minute delays to motorists trying to get off the industrial estate! Whoever organised this must have compost for brains. If I’d made such a cock up like this in my job I’d have been sacked!
