Mill Lane Wizards Win More Silverware in York

Mill Lane Wizards u13’s won the York RI tournament for the second time in 3 years on a lovely day in York.

After winning their first match 6:0 against local favourites York RI Whites with goals from Jamie Pettigrew, Harry Sadler and Lloyd Bean, they then played Easingwold Reds and despite creating endless chances could only come away with a 1:1 draw.

After winning their next match against through an unfortunate own goal, next up was Stamford Bridge and the Wizards turned on the style with some great passing football from George Addison, Joe Douglas and to run out winners 7:0. In their final league encounter against Poppleton Panthers the Wizards, with Adam Prince prominent won 4:0 to top the league standings

In the semi-final Wiggington Grasshoppers stood in the way of another final appearance and with some confident keeping from Isaac Adnitt and great free flowing football, Mill Lane ran out comfortable 5:0 winners. The other semi-final went down to penalties and the unfortunate Southwark from London missed in sudden death spot kick to put Easingwold Reds in the final.

With only a minute gone a mix up in the Wizards defence put Easingwold 1:0 up in the final but with Mill Lane dominating the match it was no surprise when the ball was laid back to Zac Wise who’s first time shot found the bottom corner for 1:1.

The team from continued to ramp up the pressure and just before halftime Harry Sadler picked up the ball, outpaced the Easingwold defence and made no mistake to put Mill Lane 2:1 ahead.

Despite creating numerous chances in the second half the Wizards couldn’t find that killer 3rd goal but managed to see the game out to deservedly win the trophy.
