Godber And Thornton To Make Rare Stage Appearance In Brand New Play SHAFTED!

SHAFTED! A brand new play by BAFTA Award winning playwright, John Godber, is heading to Beverley later this month.

SHAFTED! premieres at Theatre Royal Wakefield in April with a surprising cast line up. It will star John Godber himself and his wife Jane Thornton.

An epic new play, SHAFTED! traces what happened to miner Harry and his wife Dot in the thirty years after the infamous strike in 1984. This rare stage appearance will be a first for Mr Godber since a production of April In Paris (also with Jane Thornton) in 2010 at Hull Truck Theatre which was a sell out.

Speaking of this, his 68th play, Godber said;

“I am excited about the prospect of working on this new play which spans thirty years.”

The production by The John Godber Company and Theatre Royal Wakefield will also play at East Riding Theatre, Beverley from 25th April till the 10th May.

John Godber is a multi-award winning playwright from Upton, West Yorkshire. Amongst his accolades are a Laurence Olivier Award and seven Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards.

Godber ran Hull Truck Theatre for twenty five years taking it from near bankruptcy in 1984 to delivering the £15m theatre in 2009 which he helped design and raise the money for.
