There’s a chance to see three pictures by Lachlan Goudie – a judge on BBC One’s popular Sunday evening show ‘The Big Painting Challenge’ – in an exhibition at Art Gallery which runs until Saturday 11 April.

Lachlan has three exhibits in ‘Still Alive : the Contemporary Still Life’, the first exhibition at the Art Gallery to form part of its new relationship with the prestigious Mall Galleries in London. Mall Galleries champions art by living artists and has a crucial role in diversifying contemporary practice in art.

‘Still Alive’ was initially produced for the Mall Galleries, which has a major space near Trafalgar Square in London. Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, said: “We very much hope that this exhibition will be the first of many regular opportunities for visitors to enjoy shows from the Mall Galleries. This relationship is a real coup for the council, and for Beverley Art Gallery in particular.

“Still Alive offers a great chance to come and see the work of Lachlan Goudie (among many others), and see why he has risen to fame as a judge on the BBC’s ‘Big Painting Challenge.”

Gerardine Mulcahy-Parker, curator of Beverley Art Gallery, added: “This exhibition shows that still life painting is very much alive and relevant. It includes work by artists like Charlotte Halliday and Sam Dalby, blending the long-established with fresher flavours.”

Mall Galleries is operated by the Federation of British Artists (FBA), a major visual arts charity. The Federation consists of eight of the country’s leading art societies, each of which hosts an annual exhibition at Mall Galleries.

The eight societies are:

  • Royal Society of British Artists
  • Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours
  • Royal Institute of Oil Painters
  • New English Art Club
  • Royal Society of Portrait Pianters
  • Pastel Society
  • Royal Society of Marine Artists
  • Society of Wildlife Artists

‘Still Alive : The Contemporary Still Life’ is free and runs until Saturday 11 April in Beverley Art Gallery in the in Champney Road. It is open Monday – Saturday.
