George McManus Slams Council Over Living Wage

The Church of England has been embarrassed by its advocacy of the Living Wage only to find that many Church employees are themselves sold short.

But local campaigners are accusing East Riding Council of hypocrisy as it reveals that up to 800 of it’s employees are being paid less than the Living Wage.

Labour’s George McManus said;

“Hundreds of East Riding Council workers are claiming benefits because the Council refuses to pay the Living Wage.”

“Councils and Government Departments across the country understand the numerous benefits of the Living Wage but our Council buries its head in the sand.”

“Labour will campaign for the Living Wage. It’s morally right and makes sound economic sense.”
