DAY 1

Day one of the British Dressage Winter Regionals kicked off with four closely fought classes. All riders put in strong performances, with the top three changing regularly throughout each class, but it was Jack Wilkinson riding Dark Bacardi who trotted to victory in two of the four classes.

Wainwright, aged 17 from Pocklington, took the top spot in both the Blue Chip Novice Restricted 39 2010 and the Baileys Horse Feed Novice Freestyle to 2012 with scores of 69.94 and 74.17 respectively. Wainwright, who admitted he would have been ‘happy with a top 10 placing’ ended day one of the competition on a high after securing two qualifying positions to the Hartpury finals.

But success wasn’t just on the cards for Jack. Jane Lishman, competing in the KBIS Preliminary 17 test, danced her way to victory after securing a score of 72.56 – the second major win in as many weeks for the para-rider. With a near faultless performance, Jane and her gelding Lordana Tg, received a much deserved round of applause upon completion of her test, and that all-important ticket to the Hartpury finals in April.
