Beverley Getting Its Groove On For The Red Nose Day Danceathon

A local family blogging family and a Beverley dance school are taking part in the first ever Red Nose Day Danceathon for Comic Relief.

On the 8th March, students of Inspire School of Dance and Drama will be dancing relay-style for six hours, led by principal, Miss Katie. Students of all ages will be involved, with the younger age groups kicking things off from 10am, and different groups taking to the floor in two-hourly sessions at the school’s Bishop Burton branch.

Katie Yeo, principal said;

“The school is extremely excited to be a part of the Danceathon for Comic Relief, it’s a  fun way of raising money and is open to all ages so the whole school can get involved. It’s a fabulous way of getting our pupils doing something to help others and raise awareness as well as funds.’”

Later in the day, local family travel blogger Joanne Brady and her ten-year old daughter Meredith will be part of the 2,000 members of the public dancing at Wembley Arena.

They will form part of Team Honk, a collective of UK bloggers who get together annually to raise money for Comic Relief and Sport Relief. Last year, Joanne and her family were part of a team that passed a baton from Land’s End to John O’Groats via non-motorised means, which involved hundreds of bloggers and their family and friends in all parts of the UK.

This year, Team Honk will make up 500 of the 2,000 places at Wembley Arena and are set to raise over £75,000 for the Comic Relief pot, eclipsing the £30,000 they raised in 2014.  Dancing will be for six-hours, and cover twelve different dance styles, each led by a celebrity dancer or comedy icon.

Joanne Brady said;

“It was so much fun being in Team Honk last year, though a lot of hard work was involved in the co-ordination of just our small stretch of Yorkshire. This year, my contribution to doing something funny for money is dancing. It will be painful, in more ways than one.”

She added;

“My daughter will be fine. She has enough energy for the both of us. We are really excited to be able to attend the event and raise money for something that supports many good causes, both in the UK and abroad, which create lasting change for so many people.”

The Wembley Arena Danceathon will be broadcast live via the BBC Red button from 12noon – 6pm on the 8th March, and people are invited to dance along, whether in their own homes, or by organising an event in their village hall or school.
