Lord Nelson Claim All Three Points and Make it Five Games Unbeaten

Lord Nelson gaffer Terry Jackson said his side dug in well showing great character as his side beat Park Athletic 2 -1 at Longcroft School.

The Lord Nelson took the lead when James Chadburn scored what the manager described as a ’30 yard worldy’ mid way through the first half.

double the lead for the home side in the second half when he latched on to a long ball and burst through slotting the ball past the keeper with his right boot.

As they appeared to cruising to what looked to be an easy three points things took a turn for the worse when Chadburn was sent off.

Down to ten men the Lord Nelson soon reduced to nine men when Nick Rawnsley committed a professional foul in the penalty area in the last minute.

Park converted the  kick to add some respectability to the score though for Jackson the win means they are now unbeaten in five games.

While the Lord Nelson showed they were a threat up front much credit must be given to the keeper Matthew Spencer.

Spencer was in for the suspended David Butt and gave a master class in the of goalkeeping in some very challenging conditions, commenting on his keepers efforts the manager said;

“Spencer deserves a lot of praise for today and was instrumental in us claiming all three points. He has put a real case forward for claiming the number one shirt.”

“Today his finger tip save was the difference between us getting on point or all three. His all round game was joy to watch today, he certainly looks like he is a natural.”

“As goalkeepers go he is the complete package. He has a real presence on the pitch commanding the defence really well and offers us a new dimension with his distribution.”

Jackson knows he seven days to think about who will wear the coveted keepers shirt next weekend, he said;

“Next week I will face a real selection headache. Butt is available after serving his ban however I now have two top keepers to choose from and right now Spencer is just edging it.”

“Form is very important in . Butt has not played for weeks while Spencer is on a very good run of form between the sticks.”

Man of the Match for the Lord Nelson was Hewitt, the scorer of the second goal. Jackson felt his big front man put himself about throughout the game, he said;

“Hewitt’s efforts today can only be described as an amateur version of Diego Costa, put simply he bullied everybody.”

Next weekend the Lord Nelson will host .  Any sort of result will see them continue to climb away from the bottom clubs in the East Riding County League.
