Adrian Messingham Fastest For Beverley In Brass Monkey Half Marathon

With over 1400 other runners, seven members braved icy but windless conditions to complete the Brass Monkey half marathon last Sunday.

The race is organised by York Knavesmire Harriers and has a long history, starting over 30 years ago. Starting and finishing to the South of York, the course is fast and flat, heading southwards through Bishopthorpe, Acaster Selby, Appleton Roebuck and back through Bishopthorpe to finish behind the Racecourse grandstands.

Fastest Beverley runner on the day was Adrian Messingham, who completed the route in 1:27:58, and in 226th place. Next in were Andrew Johnson and Peter Watkinson, in 1:30:14 and 1:45:30 respectively.

Four of Beverley’s female runners completed the route. They were Rebecca Burge (1:46:16), Tanwen Gray (1:47:37), Allison Stabler (1:55:36) and Kate Mitchell (1:56:35). Mitchell reported that the route was still icy in parts, despite enjoyably bright and sunny running conditions.

The winner of the men’s race was Daniel Jenkin (Durham City Harriers), who crossed the line on 1:08:58. The fastest women was Shona Mcintosh (Hunters Bog Trotters); she finished in 1:16:13
