Further Winter Maintenance Operations Scheduled

is urging pedestrians, motorists and the travelling public to take care and allow extra time for journeys, following snowfall over the weekend and with subzero temperatures forecast to continue in the days ahead.

The council winter services undertook operations around the clock over the weekend, including several of the precautionary network.

To keep the East Riding moving, the council will treat the precautionary network again today as well as parts of the secondary network on higher ground to ensure main roads are well gritted ahead of further possible snow showers.

Salt stocks at the council’s depots remain healthy and salt bins have been restocked. The council will also be depositing and refilling salt piles at strategic locations across the East Riding, such as at the inclines of hills.

Grounds maintenance staff will also be diverted to treating high pedestrian areas and car parks.

Mike Featherby, head of streetscene services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council is continuing with winter maintenance operations and will do so throughout this period of inclement weather.

“The council is not being complacent and continues to monitor weather conditions closely and conduct operations in accordance with its winter plan, with staff and equipment on standby to support our residents.”

“Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra time for travel and to drive to the conditions.”

“Forecasts, at present, indicate that this cold snap is likely to last well into this week.”
