Uncertain Future For Tesco Staff As Company Confirm Store Closures

Staff at the Tesco Store in will have a nervous wait on their hands after the company announced it was closing 43 of their stores.

Tesco Beverley is built on the site of the old cattle market, and at the time its arrival was apposed by a number of people. Since opening it has become an integral part of the community supporting a number of local charities and events.

Tesco declined to comment on which stores will be closed, a spokesperson for Tesco told .net;

“We have taken the difficult decision to close 43 of our stores. Our first priority is to consult colleagues who are impacted by these changes, and we will be speaking to them over the coming weeks.”

Local staff at the store in Beverley branch on can take heart from the fact that most of the stores to be closed will be their ‘local convenience stores’.

Dave Lewis, the new chief executive said;

“I am very conscious that the consequences of these changes are significant for all stakeholders in our , but we are facing the reality of the situation.”

“Our recent performance gives us confidence that when we pull together and put the customer first, we can deliver the right results.”

It is not only their stores coming under pressure. Tesco are also scraping the staff pension scheme and making cuts as they look to tighten their belt.

Tesco have also agreed what is thought to be a £5m to sell off Tesco Broadband and Blinx, their online entertainment service to Telco firm Talk Talk. Tesco will also be closing their office in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.

The news of the closures comes after the super market giant which has some 3,300 shops in the UK enjoyed a better than expected festive period.
