Pictures showing the new junction that is being constructed at Grove Hill Road in Beverley have caused quite stir.

The images first appeared on the internet after they were posted by local Councillor David Elvidge to his Facebook account and for many this was the first time they had seen the proposed junction.

For the past few months motorists travelling through Beverley have experienced what can only be described as ‘motoring hell’ as they work their way through the numerous obstacle courses that have been created during the latest phase of the town plan.

One of the most hazardous parts is where the work is taking place at Grove Hill Road / / Hull Road junction.

Formally a roundabout it is being remodelled into a all new junction and for now drivers are faced with a confusing set of signs as they look to navigate the safest path through.

Needless to say when work is completed the new junction should be less confusing. However when pictures appeared of what it will look like when complete they sparked a number comments and reactions from locals.

Pete Walker compared the new junction at Grove Hill Road to a children’s toy, he commented;

‘It’s a play mat for kids to push cars around. Never in human transport has such an abortion been even considered.’

Linda Johnson questioned if the design was a replica of one of most famous interchanges in the world, she said;

‘Is this Beverley’s version of spaghetti junction? Looks like a long detour if you miss your lane.’

Others say the design is an illusion and holds a hidden secret. Daniel Williams is one of those people, he discovered something all together different. He said;

‘If you look at the roundabout for 30 seconds then look at the wall and blink you can see Jesus’ face.’

For some the project has made every day life difficult. Resident Lynda Tomlinson queuing at night since they started to do works overnight instead of weekends.
