Hemingway Bailey Ltd’s Evie Molloy Wins At Apprentice Awards

Evie Molloy, an apprentice at Hemingway Bailey Ltd and student at East Riding College, has beaten off competition across the Yorkshire and the Humber region and been named Intermediate Apprentice of the Year 2014. Hemingway Bailey Ltd were also Highly Commended in the Newcomer SME of the Year category.

Hemingway Bailey Ltd are Chartered Management Accountants based in Beverley and actively promote Apprenticeships, with two of the team training as apprentices within the organisation. They place great emphasis on the training of their team and, as well as providing technical accounting training, apprentices gain early responsibility and are exposed to business situations such as presentations and networking from early in their training. Apprentices also mentor with Hull Children’s University, giving back to their local community and also developing their communication and business skills.

The Yorkshire and the Humber National Apprenticeship Awards, now in the eleventh year, took place in Leeds on 3 September 2014 and celebrate the achievements of the country’s most outstanding apprentices and Apprenticeship employers. Evie’s award is the top award available to her level in the Yorkshire and the Humber region, with Hemingway Bailey’s Highly Commended award recognising the work the company put in to developing apprentices.

Evie Molloy, Intermediate Apprentice of the Year 2014, said, “I am shocked and amazed I have been given such a high-level award. I really enjoy what I do with Hemingway Bailey, and in setting up my own company – MixEd – I hope to use the skills and knowledge from my Apprenticeship to help others of similar ages.”

Alan Hemingway, a Director of Hemingway Bailey, said, “It is fantastic that Evie has done so well and that her continued hard work has been recognised. She is a valued asset to Hemingway Bailey and we are proud of what she has achieved.

“It is also great news that Hemingway Bailey has been Highly Commended in the Newcomer SME category. We do all we can to give young people the chance to learn and grow, and can see the benefits that the added responsibility our apprentices are given is having on their development.”

While working with Hemingway Bailey, Evie studies for her AAT qualifications at East Riding College in Beverley. The college have supported her throughout, as well as giving her assistance while she was searching for an Apprenticeship opportunity.

Evie said, “East Riding College have been great to me over the last couple of years. Throughout the year I was taking a Business BTEC, before my Apprenticeship, I always knew I wanted to stay with East Riding because of the support they gave me. I am really grateful for my tutors and the college learning staff for everything they have done for me.”

Nicola Cooper, head of leisure and business at East Riding College, said: “We are so proud of Evie and what she has achieved, during her time as a full-time business student at the College and now in her Apprenticeship and her role at Hemingway Bailey.

“She is a credit to herself, to Hemingway Bailey and to East Riding College, and a shining example of the benefits of Apprenticeships to the employer and the apprentice themselves.”

Evie will now proceed through to a final national judging stage where the highest scoring apprentices will be nominated for the National Intermediate Apprentice of the Year award, with a ceremony at the LG Arena, NEC Birmingham on 13 November 2014. Here, the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers will also be announced by the National Apprenticeship Service in partnership with City and Guilds.
