New Look Beavers Positive Ahead Of New Season

Beverley RUFC Director of Rugby is in a confident mood ahead this weekend’s season opener against Morley.

Newly appointed to the role as Director of Rugby Tupai has been busy adding to the squad in a summer that saw James Holland, Tomasi Tanuami and Joey Pickles all move on.

Tupai has confirmed that Sam Atiola, Matty Adams and club stalwart Dave Worrall are all returning to the club describing Worrall’s return as ‘fantastic’.

Speaking ahead of the match Tupai, commenting on Worrall’s come back said;

“It is fantastic he has (Dave Worrall) returned. Any player of that calibre you want on your team.”

“He is a Beverley lad and brings in a wealth of experience but more importantly he’s a team player, and 100% supports the direction myself & the other coaches are looking to take the team.”

More new faces look set to grace the turf at Beaver Park as he looks to keep it local, he said;

“Although the players who have moved on will be missed, replacements have been made with numerous new
signings of players who live and work locally within Beverley and Hull catchment area.”

“We have also the re-establishment of the relationship with the Rugby Academy.”

Previously when the two sides let met Beverley ran out easy winners beating Morley 59 points to 27. ’s golden boot delivering as he converted all eight conversions and a penalty.

Any sort of result like that on the day is sure to leave Tupai with a wide-eyed smile on his face, but he will have to do it without Duboulay, who is out injured.

Commenting on the absence of Duboulay, he said;

“The injury to Phil Duboulay is a minor setback. He’s a huge influence on the pitch for our team.”

“He directs us around the park and kicks our goals so me playing again is only a temporary solution until he returns. Then I’ll happily hand his jumper back.”

When asked who would be skippering the side Tupai said;

“Whilst golden boy is off….it could be me. I don’t know to be honest as we’ve not really thought about it.”

Saturday is not going to be a walk in the park. The team are new and Tupai is all too aware the lads will need time to gel and learn to play how he wants them to, he said;

“This is totally a new challenge for this group of players. This week’s training has been based around emphasising new team structures and policies and ensuring everyone is on the same page heading into this week’s games.”

“There are opportunities for players to play their first game for the club this week and that hopefully brings enthusiasm to our performance and continues to develop our team culture where players are proud to play for our club.”
