Oil Boss To Talk About Shale Gas And Fracking

On Wednesday 10th September, residents of Beverley and East Riding will have an opportunity to learn more about the “Dash for Gas” and current exploration of shale gas in the East Riding.

Ian R Crane, a former senior oilfield services executive with over 20-year global industry experience, will explain the background to the current government drive to open up shale gas reserves in the UK.

Speaking from a professional background he will highlight how this new unconventional technology has impacted upon communities in North America and in .

He will also provide examples of how the embryonic Hydraulic Fracturing (fracking) industry has affected targeted communities elsewhere in the UK.

Ian says,

“This is essentially an information evening with opportunities to ask questions and debate the issues. I know there is growing concern about the plans Rathlin UK have to produce oil and gas in the area for the next 50 years. certainly need to be aware of how fracking industry will affect rural communities; particularly with respect to agriculture, property values and increased heavy traffic movements.”

Event Organiser, Beverley Resident Jon Mager, says,

“There will also be a briefing about the current application by Rathlin UK Ltd to extend their planning permission for another two-year test drilling at Crawberry Hill, having failed to complete their planned operation within the initial two-year period set by East Riding Council.”

Last month, Rathlin had to shut down their test well temporarily, having advised the Health & Safety Executive that they were experiencing ‘unexpected pressure’ in the well at West Newton.
