ERYC Assures Public Highest Priority Is Given To Safeguarding Children and Young People

are declining to comment on individual members of staff but have released a Response to Independent Report into Child Sexual Exploitation in Rotherham.

Kevin Hall, director of children, families and schools at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“I would like to reassure residents that the council together with its partners gives the highest priority to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people throughout the East Riding and is committed to delivering the best possible outcomes.”

“The East Riding Safeguarding Children’s Board, of which the council is a key member, will carefully consider the independent report which has been published following an inquiry by Professor Alexis Jay OBE into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham.”

Earlier today the MP for Beverley & Holderness issued an open letter to the council and the media calling for them to detail what action the council plans to take.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council have been put under the media spotlight as  Pam Allen served as Director of Safeguarding at Rotherham Council from 2004 until 2009.

Ms Allen now serves as Head of Children and Young People Support and Safeguarding Services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Gary Shores PPC Beverley and Holderness has also expressed his concerns calling for Ms Allen to step down he said;

“Former Rotherham council director for child safety now employed by East Riding council, Pam Allen should be placed immediately on ‘garden leave’.”

“An investigation needs to be launched to determine what knowledge and involvement if any, in the Rotherham child abuse cases she had while employed there during which the recent child exploitation report covers.”
