Summer Sessions Launched By Coletta & Tyson To Get More Children Into Their Gardens

is looking to inspire the next generation of gardeners to pick up a trowel, pot a plant or hang a basket with the launch of its new ‘Summer Sessions’.

The Woodmansey-based garden centre is running the sessions for children of all ages to get their hands dirty during the summer holidays in a bid to learn more about the world of gardening.

Summer Sessions, which will cater for up to 20 children at a time and focus on different themes, is the latest initiative launched by the centre to increase its interaction with the local community, promoting the centre as a destination for people of all ages.

John Tyson, of Coletta & Tyson, said:

“Gardening has no age limit and the Summer Sessions are a chance for children to discover a whole new set of skills which they can develop over a lifetime.”

“We are always looking for ways to attract new people to the world of gardening and horticulture, not just our garden centre. We have recently held special events for local school children as well as for residents of a Hull housing association, both of which were very successful and popular.”

“Our centre is very much family-focused and attracting visitors of all ages is something we are very conscious of, so we are looking forward to launching the initiative.”

“Each session will be themed and include practical demonstrations as well as provide the children with the opportunity to get their hands dirty while under the guidance of our expert staff.”

The first Summer Session, ‘Grow Your Own Flowers’, will take place on Thursday, August 14 from 11am until 12.30pm. The theme for this session will be seeds and planting and children will have the chance design their own tray label and plant seeds.

The second event, ‘Reptiles, Fluffies & Feathery Friends’, will take place on Thursday, August 28 from 11am until 12.30pm and will be held in the garden centre’s 4pets store. It will feature a petting zoo, talks on animal care and fun animal facts.

Both events cost £7.95 each and children will also receive a lunchbox and drink in the Oasis Café as well as a goody bag.

All activities will be supervised by an experienced member of staff who will pass on their own skills and help children achieve something over summer that they can take away with them.

Booking forms are available at the information desk in the centre and payment must be made at the time of booking.
