RNLI Voted Beverley Building Society’s Charity of the Month

In July, members of the Building Society voted unanimously for the RNLI to win its charity of the month competition.

A major charity the RNLI aim is savings lives at sea. They provide a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service, a flood rescue team and a seasonal lifeguard service. In 2013 alone the RNLI rescued 8,384 people and saved 425 lives launching an average of 23 lifeboats each day.

With the charity not seeking funding from central government, instead relies on generous support from volunteers, donations and legacies. Outstandingly, 94% of the RNLI are un-paid volunteers, this ranges from Flag Day collectors to the lifeboat crew who risk their own lives at sea every day.

Reliance on volunteers means there is an ongoing plea for additional support and anybody who would like to get involved with the Beverley RNLI is urged to contact the guild secretary, Brian Seymour on 01482 868708 or Brian@seymour.karoo.co.uk.

The Beverley Building Society has been at the heart of the local community in Beverley and East Yorkshire since 1866. As East Yorkshire’s only independent building society, the historic mutual prides itself upon offering straightforward and savings products underpinned by an unrivalled level of personal service.

The Society’s charity of the month competition has been running for over 2 years and has so far donated a total of £7,750 to 31 different local charities.

Mike Plaster, Marketing Manager at Beverley Building Society said:

“The RNLI are a fantastically well supported charity in the local area and that was certainly mirrored in last month’s voting in our branch. We all hope that the donation helps towards the great work the charity does.”
