Tesco have issued an apology after their Beverley store was found to have baby food on the shelves that was past the manufacturers recommended date.

A Shopper at the Tesco store on contacted .net after the breakfast cereal they almost purchased was a month past its best before date.

The couple who did not wish to be named said contacted HU17.net after despite their best efforts to have the product removed it remained on the shelves, they said;

“On Monday my partner went into Tesco in Beverley to buy, amongst other things, some baby food.”

“When she got to the checkout with the Organix – , she realised the product was over one month out of date.”

“The girl on the checkout was mortified and called over her line manager or team leader to make her aware of the issue.”

“However, from the reaction, it seemed she basically couldn’t care less and when asked if she was going to remove the product from the shelves she replied ‘whatever’.”

Worse was to come for the couple, just days later they returned to do more shopping and to their horror, the same product was still be sold, they added;

“We contacted Tesco right away using social media, and they said they would contact the store manager directly.”

The couple made contact with Tesco through Twitter and soon got a response to their complaint that assured them the issue would be resolved, and the store manager would be contacted.

Despite the Tweet from Tesco, it seems no action was taken to remove the product from sale after another trip to the store, they saw the offending product was still on the shelf, they said;

“As of 1.30pm on the Wednesday the out-of-date product was STILL on the shelves. To sell out of date food is a disgrace but to be selling out of date baby food is downright scandalous.”

All that we could do at HU17.net was to go to the store and see if the product was still there, and it was. Three boxes on Organix Goodies Number Jumble Cereal were neatly stacked on the shelf for customers to buy.

After taking a photo of the product on the shelve and purchasing the remaining stock we contacted Tesco, explained the issue and asked for their response.

Tesco were very helpful and looked into the matter, a spokesperson for the super market giant said;

“We’re really sorry that this product was on our shelves and we’ve been reviewing our procedures to make sure that this isolated incident doesn’t happen again.”

“We have thoroughly checked the rest of the products, and are satisfied that they all meet our very high standards of food quality.”
