Want To Work In Learning Support?

An open event will be held at East Riding College this month for who are interested in working in learning support in a range of settings.

The event will enable prospective students to find out more about the Foundation Degree in Learning Support and will be held at the College’s campus in Gallows Lane, Beverley on Wednesday, July 23, from 9.30am to noon.

The course is aimed at those who want to work in learning support in pre-school, primary, secondary and post-16 education or who already do and want to formalise their skills and knowledge through a qualification.

As well as being a job role in its own right, learning support is also a popular route into teaching.

Tutor Gill Cook said: “Our Foundation Degree in Learning Support is a very popular course, which is studied part-time over three years at our Beverley and Bridlington campuses.

“It is an excellent step into a career as a teaching assistant, which is a hugely popular role in modern teaching and learning, as well as support workers, coaches, play workers and other roles.

“People who attend our open event will be able to talk to our tutors about what the course entails and how it fits around work and family commitments, as well as having a look round the College.”

The Foundation Degree in Learning Support focuses on work-related skills to improve employability and effectiveness at work.

It covers topics such as social contexts of learning, understanding teaching and learning, managing behaviour, research methods and safeguarding.

Anyone who would like to attend the event should report to reception at the Gallows Lane campus. For more information, email gill.cook@eastridingcollege.ac.uk
