Beverley Pub Sixes : Swinemoor CC Win Title For Second Year Running

Swinemoor CC beat the Crown and Anchor at the Norwood Recreation Ground to win the Beverley Pub Sixes for the second consecutive season.

Defending Champions, Swinemoor needed just 46 runs in the final to clinch the title in front of a good sized crowd.

Bad weather had threatened to end the competition early by all the sides involved insisted on playing on despite the rain.

, who helped organise the event said;

“Pub Sixes are always great day for the whole community and would like to thank all 19 teams that took part and all the spectators that came down to support the teams on the day.”

“We would like to congratulate to Swinemoor CC on retaining the trophy and look forward to them coming back next year and trying to win it for the third year running.”

Skipper of Swinemoor CC Michael O’Connell said;

“We batted poorly to be honest scoring one of our lowest scores of the day but our bowling and fielding was brilliant and that allowed us to win relatively comfortably in the end.”

There was more joy for O’Connell after he and fellow team mate Sean Gibson won the Pharrel Williams prize draw tickets with number 190.

Another highlight of the day was came from the Cornbeef Island side who scored 102 in their match.

Commenting on the mammoth score Grantham said;

“I am not completely sure but I suspect this is up there with one of the highest totals we have seen in the competition, they were scoring at t a rate of 3 runs per ball!”

The biggest winners however are Beverley Town Club who through the Pub Sixes and the related fund raising on the day stand to bank around £1000 that will go to support the club and cricket in the community.
