Body Builder Reduced To Tears After Winning NABBA Title

Local body-builder Paul Lock says he shed a tear after for filling a lifelong dream of winning National Amateur Body-Builders Association Class 4 Mr. Britain title.

Paul who runs the gym BodyFlex Gym on Grovehill Road Industrial Estate Annie Read Road, Beverley said;

“Since I was a teenager and got into the sport all I have always wanted to win this title, when I knew I had won it was hard to hold the tears back, and I cried like a baby.”

In order to get himself in shape Paul spent four gruelling months preparing for the competition dieting and training as he reduced his body fat to less than 5%.

His efforts paid off as he beat other regional champions who were much younger than him to lift the title, he said;

“I have been training my muscles for many years now, when I come up against younger athletes this gives me an advantage as my body is far more conditioned. I entered this event four years ago and finished runner up, this time I was 15lb heavier with muscle than I was in 2010.”

“To win such a prestigious competition is unbelievable and makes all the hard work and preparation worth while and being Mr. Britain in my class really means a lot to me on a personal level. ”

By winning the NBBA Mr. Britain Class 4 Title Paul has earned an invite to take part in the Mr. Universe championships, the pinnacle of the sport but says he will not be entering those , he said;

“To get my body ready and to the standard, it would need to be I would have to diet all through summer which I do not want to do. I want to take a break from competing so I can focus on my business.”

“While in training the simplest things become very difficult do, for example, to do a simple sum at work I have to use a calculator.”

“While training for the competition I have neglected my business a bit and want to get back on top of that. It is not an ideal time to be putting myself through more gruelling training to compete.”

Organisers of the event said;

“Paul’s achievements are amazing, to get to where he is you have to be totally focused and dedicated, almost have tunnel vision about what you want to achieve as your goals.”

“He along with six others in his class now have the chance to compete with the crème de la crème in the sport and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger.”

Paul, however, says taking part in Mr. Universe is not an option for him at this time, he added;

“If you want to compete at Mr. Universe you need to put 100% in as you are going head to head with the best body builders out there, and if you can’t you may as well forget it, at the moment I cannot put that level of commitment it in.”
