The winner of the men’s race was Phill Taylor of Bridlington Road Runners, who clocked 33:38.

A total of 14 Beverley runners competed in the race, making up a tenth of the total field of 140. Some of Beverley’s junior runners put in strong performances in the 10k, while others ran well in the 1 mile fun run which accompanied the event.

In the 10k, Curtis Arnott achieved a personal best time of 42:47, while Kelly Dawson was the first junior female runner, completing the course in 50:37. Leading Beverley’s men were Darren Edge and Andrew Johnson, who were respectively 6th and 7th overall in times of 37:47 and 38:27.

In the fun run, it was a 1, 2, 3 for Beverley runners, with Jacob Chastney, Laura Dunion and Taylor Arnott taking the honours in 6:08, 6.17 and 6:32 respectively. Isabelle Horrocks also ran well to be the second girl home over the course, in 7:15. Eleven Beverley Juniors competed overall, between them taking the first eight places in the race.

On the same day, Peter Watkinson completed the Rosedale Trail Marathon in the North York Moors National Park. This is one of a series of tough off-road marathons organised by Hardmoors 110, and starts and finishes in Hutton le Hole. Watkinson said that the organisation of this race was excellent, with Hardmoors arranging lots of marshalls who did a superb job.

This year, weather conditions were perfect, with a slight drizzle early on but no extreme heat. At twenty seven and a half miles, the route is demanding, but covers undulating terrain with no severe climbs. Watkinson completed the race in an impressive time of 4:26, coming 30th overall and first in his V60 category.

Two of ’s own races are on the horizon. The popular will take place this year on Friday 11th July at 7:30. It is preceded by a family fun run at 6:45. Online entries close on 20th June.
