Beverley Town CC Drop Vital Points Away To Stamford Bridge

have slipped to third in the York & District Senior Cricket lead after they managed a losing draw with Stamford Bridge.

Skipper Jonathan Fisher went into the match full of confidence believing Beverley had enough to claim all thirty championship points but poor batting and host of extras saw Beverley drop 14 points.

Speaking after the game Fisher said;

“We played an under strength Stamford Bridge side so after winning the toss and putting them in to bat I felt it could by our day, although the first 10 over’s were as bad as we’ve played all year. We gave away too many extras yet again and didn’t trouble the batsmen with the ball.”

“We managed to pull it back and with Stamford at 132/7 we should have bowled them out for 150, but they had a good partnership at the end which took them to 183.”

“Again we failed to form any major batting partnership with most batsmen getting a start but failing to go on to make a match winning knock and we fell 15 runs short of Stamfords’ total.”

“The positive is that we took 16 points from the game and didn’t lose, but the disappointing factor was that we knew it should have been a win, and it’s games like those that we should be able to win as a formality.”

“looking forward we have the league leaders Woodhouse Grange at Norwood on Saturday, a few players who are unavailable will undoubtedly give a chance to fringe players.”

Beverley will welcome the league leaders to Norwood next weekend and despite Saturday’s poor show Fisher feels his side can bounce back, he said;

“I’m confident that whatever side I select will be a side well capable of getting back to winning ways regardless of the opposition.”

Faisal Abid was Beverley’s top scorer, the attacking batsman scored 26 helping himself to two 4s and one 6 from 40 balls. Fisher, , Andrew Burton all reached double figures but failed to kick on.

Matthew Mudd was yet again the pick of the bowlers claiming three wickets from his fifteen over spell.
