Family Fun At Beverley Folk Festival

Beverley Folk Festival’s acclaimed programme of free activities and events for families and young audiences is set to be better than ever in 2014.

After four consecutive nominations for ‘Best Family Festival’ at the UK Festival Awards, Beverley is justifiably proud of it’s history of serving all age groups.

This year’s festival takes place from June 20-22 at , with a music line-up including Billy Bragg, Martin Carthy & Eliza Carthy, Chas & Dave, Home Service, Lau and Thea Gilmore. Further highlights include appearances from Michael Morpurgo, author of the novel War Horse, and the journalist and broadcaster Andy Kershaw, with his one-man show The Adventures of Andy Kershaw. And there’s comedy from the likes of John Hegley and Sean Hughes.

Family activities play a central role in the festival programme. The under 12s are catered for in The Den, the festival’s children’s marquee, with a range of activities and workshops including singing, drama, storytelling and crafts such as face painting, bunting making, den-building and much more.

The Westwood Sessions offers young musicians aged 11-18 the chance to record their own music and, new for 2014, the Westwood Sessions Live is an acoustic venue offers them the opportunity to perform and showcase their talent in a friendly, welcoming and supportive environment. The Westwood Sessions Live will be open Fri-Sun from 7-10pm and booking sheets will be available on each day.

The Outdoor Stage will feature Shivna – Hull U11s Irish Dancing team as well as performances from children at , and The Longcroft Henry Priestman song writing workshop. The festival’s student team will also be performing.

For young musicians already performing around the country in folk clubs and other venues, the festival’s Area 2 youth programme, organised and run by young people, highlights the best of the young talent around this country today. As well as concerts it has a number of workshops in the main racecourse building on a variety of instrumental and vocal themes hosted by Sam Pirt and Jim Molyneux.

Beverley Folk Festival also prides itself on a wide range of food outlets, many from within the region and using locally-sourced ingredients, including varied organic, vegetarian, and vegan options. And the festival village offers a huge range of stalls and merchandise. Real ale is on offer from the Wold Top Bar.

With unlimited free parking adjacent to the site, plus a regular shuttle bus running throughout the day from the town to the festival, everyone can enjoy a taste of the festival.
