Revving Up For The 46th Hull to Bridlington Classic Vehicle Rally

East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club will be holding their annual East Coast Run on the 8th June.

Now in its 46th year the Hull to Bridlington Classic Vehicle Rally was originally started by a club called Humberbus, a group of bus enthusiasts back in 1969, on the first rally there were only seven entries.

The club who run the popular Beverley Classic Car Rally, which sees hundreds of vehicles descend on Beverley, continue to develop the Rally and over the years the it has grown with hundreds of classic vehicles taking part last year.

Alex Birtwistle of East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club said;

“In 2013 over 700 vehicles attended the event that is open to Buses, Classic & Historic Lorries, Military and Emergency Vehicles, Classic Cars, Motorcycles, Stationary Engines and Tractors.”

“Vehicles will congregate in East Park, Hull from 9:30am until 11:00am and are free to come and mingle with the vehicles when they are parked up before departure.”

“We recommend that general public find alternative parking as it becomes very congested on Holderness Road and within East Park.”

Hull to Bridlington Classic Vehicle Rally follows the A165 out of Hull, at the White Cross roundabout, it heads up the bypass and press on to Bridlington.

Once the Hull to Bridlington Classic Vehicle Rally reach the Carnaby roundabout it turns left, and ultimately heads through Carnaby Village, down Bessingby Hill into Bridlington. Along Marton Road, turning right onto Sewerby Heads and finally left onto Sewerby Road.

Alex added;

“All of the vehicles appreciate a friendly wave as they pass by. It is always a spectacle to see the classic and historic vehicles in the environment they were designed for, the open road!”

“I suggest you find you vantage point en route early as space is at a premium, last year people were stood on vehicle roofs just to see us drive by.”

“Our destination is Sewerby fields where there will be vehicles on display late on into the afternoon. Refreshments will be available in the afternoon along with trade stands and stalls that are support local charities.”

Vehicles will start to arrive from midday and the general public are unable to park on the event field and there is no charge to enter either East Park or Sewerby Fields to view the vehicles.

Anyone who wants to enter a vehicle simply can turn up on the day. All vehicles may be entered, with the exception of buses that need to be will be 15 years and older.
