Teenagers To Benefit From New Bus Discounts

Local bus company East Yorkshire Services has launched a new discount card for 16-18 year olds.

The Go Card, which gives young people 20% off bus fares, is available to anyone aged 16, 17 or 18 in Hull, East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

The cards are similar to London Oyster Cards – they can be topped up with credit, and this credit used to buy fares on the bus, with an automatic 20% discount. Go Cards can be used on all East Yorkshire and Scarborough & District service buses, so young people from across the whole EYMS network should benefit from the discounts.

The new cheaper fares for young people have come about following requests to EYMS from local youth groups. EYMS Chairman and Chief Executive Peter Shipp explains:

“Older teenagers a lot by bus, and they tell us our services can be a lifeline to help them get to college, work, apprenticeships, or to meet friends. As a lot of young people are in full time education or low-paid jobs, they can struggle to afford bus fares. We hope the new Go Card will help them to make the most of the opportunities our bus services offer, and give them more freedom so they don’t have to rely on lifts from parents.”

16-18 year olds can apply for the Go Card online at www.eyms.co.uk , or can get a paper application form by ringing BusLine on 01482 59 29 29.
