Two Beverley Organisations Benefit From Council Grants

Voluntary youth organisations across the region are celebrating after receiving grants at a ceremony hosted by the East Riding youth and family support service.

The Positive Activity Grants were awarded to successful youth organisations from across the county by the Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Councillor Claude Mole, at a ceremony at County Hall in Beverley.

Among those who benefited from a grant included two organisations in Beverley, Track Fitness and Club who opened in January this year were awarded £2,000 to engage with young people in the Swinemoor area and encourage community spirit and Altered Beats who were also awarded £2,000.

Councillor Mole said: “It was wonderful to meet recipients of the award who came from all over the county.”

“The awards will enable these groups to deliver positive activities to children and young people to help improve their personal, social and educational development, as well as providing some great fun activities.”

Kevin Allen, youth and family support service manager, said:

“This year we had an unprecedented level of interest from voluntary youth organisations applying for an award and I am pleased to report that we are able to support 20 groups in total, 16 of which are completely new voluntary youth groups.”

“We have seen a wide range of exciting and innovative bids, including a project in an isolated rural location to transport young people into leisure activities, a new youth group formed by local residents to provide activities on a Friday night, and two boxing clubs in Bridlington and Beverley wanting to provide more boxing training to young people. There are also faith-based youth groups, village youth clubs and drama, music and arts-based groups, all of whom will receive a Positive Activity Grant.”

The grants were awarded to voluntary not-for-profit organisations to expand the amount of positive activity available to young people in the East Riding.

East Riding Voluntary Action Services (ERVAS) received £5,000 to provide information, advice and support to youth groups.
