ArtERY Live presents Temple Theatre Unmythable

Are you ready to be a legend? Temple brings its award-winning show Unmythable from the Edinburgh Fringe to four East Riding venues for the current ArtERY Live season.

It’s one show, three actors and all the Greek myths. Heroes, monsters and randy gods go head-to-head in a hilarious and unforgettable journey through the greatest stories ever told. Unmythable does for Greek myths what the Reduced Shakespeare Company did for the Bard.

Jason invites you aboard his ship to meet Beta and Gamma (definitely not alpha males) as they set sail to try to win the Golden Fleece. They are going to need your help along the way if they are to overcome the man-eating fiery dragon that never sleeps. Or if Jason is going to overcome his commitment phobia and marry the ever-helpful, but quite frankly rather terrifying, Medea.

The Labours of Hercules are delivered like a summer Hollywood blockbuster, there are musical Sondheim spoofs and bluesy numbers and, in one of the best parts of the show, the audience watches pony clubber Persephone’s descent into the underworld, which provokes the chagrin of her mother, Demeter, who goes on strike.

Described as an anarchic blend of comedy, cross-dressing, stories and songs, the show has been hailed by The Guardian as “stupidly entertaining.” ArtERY Live Manager Ellen Thorpe said “Temple Theatre has not looked back since it won The Three Weeks Editors’ Award at the Edinburgh fringe in 2012. This show is a real crowd pleaser.”

Temple Theatre is an international company based in the UK. Their work employs ensemble practices to explore old stories and create exhilarating, generous and unique theatre. In 2009 they collaborated with acclaimed playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker to create a new version of Euripides’ tragedy Hippolytus which toured the UK.

From 2007-10 they toured their first devised piece Out of Chaos all around Europe to critical and public acclaim, winning two awards at international theatre festivals and a ‘Pick of the Fringe’ selection at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009.

Unmythable won the Three Weeks Editors’ Award at Edinburgh in 2012 and has since toured to more than 60 venues in the UK, Ireland, Greece and New Zealand.
