Ofsted Celebrations For Beverley Minster CE School

An East Riding primary school has been praised by Ofsted for making significant improvements which have led to it being judged a ‘good’ school.

CE Voluntary Controlled Primary School is celebrating after being rated as good in all key areas, including overall effectiveness, in its latest Ofsted report.

The inspectors found the school has improved significantly since a previous inspection, when it was described as ‘satisfactory’.

They say the whole school has an urgency about learning that is driving up standards.

The report says that in under a year the new headteacher, Mr Brian Stillings, has implemented changes that have swiftly allowed leaders at every level to contribute fully to school improvement.

Staff are said to be unified in their ambition to drive standards up and teaching is described as ‘good and, at times, outstanding’.

The report says that pupils have good attitudes to learning and enjoy school, and the governing body does well in holding the school to account.

In order to become ‘outstanding’, the inspectors say that the school now needs to increase the proportion of outstanding teaching.

Mr Stillings said:

“We are delighted with the outcome of the inspection and that the process recognised the enormous efforts and progress the whole school team has made to date.

“The school has improved significantly since the previous inspection and that is credit to the whole team, including the local authority, who have embraced change and are united in ambition to make the school the best it can be. We will continue to strive to make improvements.”

Councillor Julie Abraham, East Riding of Yorkshire Council portfolio holder for children, young and education, said: “I know that the community of Beverley Minster School was disappointed with the outcome when Ofsted visited in 2012 and I am so pleased for all concerned that the school is now judged, once again, to be a good school.

“Beverley Minster knows what is required to take it to the next step and is committed to the journey. I wish Mr Stillings and all at the school every success along the way.”
