Hundreds Of Electrical Items Handed To Council

Kettles, irons, televisions and toasters were among 600 unwanted electrical goods handed in to last month.

Recycling officers from the council ran collections points on supermarket car parks in , Bridlington, Goole, Market Weighton, Willerby and Withernsea.

Councillor , portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning, said: “What better month than January to make this sort of collection. People had replaced many of these household items at Christmas and were not too sure what to do with the old ones.

“In many cases, these items were in good working order and only needed a new home, which is what they will now get.”

Among the collection were 24 kettles, 18 irons, 32 CD players, 23 televisions and 40 toasters. All the items will be sorted and sent for recycling and re-use.

Electrical items can be taken to the council’s 10 household waste recycling sites. For the location of the nearest site visit the council’s website, www.eastriding.gov.uk
