RUGBY LEAGUE : Blue & Golds March On With Pleasing Performance

The blue and golds produced a pleasing team performance to chalk up another victory at a windswept last Saturday. Dan Clarke managed a hat-trick of tries in a man of the match performance.

The visitors had more of the early play and sternly tested the home sides defence. Beverley withstood three sets of six in quick succession. Having withstood the early onslaught, Beverley settled down and managed to get some quality field position. This paid dividends as Neil Mail went over in the 15th minute. Beverley then became guilty of trying to force the play at times often making one pass too many.

It took until the 37th minute before went over form dummy half for them to extend the lead. It was further extended when a clever bobbling kick in the difficult conditions by Ryan Watkin was fumbled by the opposition. Dan Clarke pounced to score beneath the posts and Watkin added the extras for a 18-0 interval lead.

The hosts came out for the second half eager to finish the job off. Ryan Watkin, who was instrumental in most of Beverley’s attacking plays, sent a neat inside pass to send Dan Clarke over for his second try.

However midway through the half Beverley went off the boil. The visitors took advantage to register two converted tries and peg back the scores to 24-12 and the home side looked a little nervous. steadied the jitters when latching onto another Watkin pass to score.

This was the signal for Beverley to open up. The forwards were now in command with Louis Hubbard and Rich Etherington busting the line at regular intervals well marshalled by the lively Gavin Proctor from dummy half. One such break from Rich Etherington set up the position for Watkin to send Clarke over for his hat-trick. Daryl Gregory then went over in the corner to complete the scoring with home side eager to rub it in.

’s Stevens was delighted to score and was full of praise for Clark, he said;

“Today went well, as a side we just got back to basics like we have done the other games and it’s working!”

“Clarke deserved his MOTM award, playing prop and for him to score a hat trick is unheard of!”

He added;

“Getting over and scoring a try is always good isn’t it! We are playing as a team now and performing well, we have got a hard game next week .”

This Saturday Beverley are away to fourth placed Three Tuns in a far sterner test. Confidence, though is high in the camp and it is hoped a dent can be put in the opponents promotion hopes.

Kick-0ff is 2pm at St Georges Road.
