Blue & Golds Left Frustrated After Surrendering Lead

After leading this match 10-4 at the interval the suffered a nightmare second half last Saturday at the Leisure Centre in which they were starved of possession and territory. On the morning of the match coach, Guy Adams had to scratch around to raise a full squad of seventeen.

A combination of players attending the World Cup semi-final at Wembley and several work commitments seriously depleted his side. Adams included himself on the bench and drafted in 16 years-old Billy Riby at full back.

Beverley did however welcome one former player in the shape of Louis Hubbard. Hubbard left the club 3 years ago to concentrate on a boxing career. He made an immediate impact, when latching onto an astute pass from Ian Lane to score beside the posts after only six minutes. Ryan Watkin converted. The visitors replied with a try in the 17th minute, but the home side continued to look good with the ball in hands.

Watkin and Lane looked lively in the halfs creating gaps for the strong running , Lee Stevens and Louis Hubbard. The visitors continued to give away penalties for high tackling giving Beverley the field position to add a second try. Guy Adam’s long pass found Ben Calvert who scored wide out. Beverley held onto a 10-4 lead until the break.

Things looked well poised for the second half, but everything seemed to be left in the dressing room. Three Tuns registered 36 unanswered second-half points as almost the entire game seemed to be played in Beverley’s half. With the few scraps of possession the home side did get, they were often guilty of forcing the play with reckless passes, which were born of frustration.

There will be no Hull & District fixture this weekend due to the World Cup Final. The following week things will return to normal!
