Johnson Scores Four As United Thrash Whitestar

Mill Lane Yellows stayed top of the U16 Girls Football League with a convincing victory against Whitestar.

Mill Lane United started quickly with some fast passing football and took the lead when a shot by captain Emma Johnson was spilled by the keeper, and the rebound was hammered into the back of the net by an on rushing to give the yellows a one nil lead inside 5 minutes.

Quickly back on the attack Holliday became the provider when a run down the right wing and through ball set, Marie(Misty)Russell free, Russell finished with ease to make it two nil within 10minutes. Credit to Whitestar who after conceding two early goals could have folded, but with Anna Green showing up well in defence, the Whitestar girls started to get a foot hole in the game and provide the hard-working Lindsey Jordan and some possession in the opposition half.

The Yellows held firm and scored three further goals from Emma Johnson, Marleigh Hornby and a first for the team from striker Chloe Wheeldon, who battled for the ball in the penalty area before finishing in style with a right foot shot to make the score five nil to Mill Lane at half time. The second half saw the Yellows score 7 more goals in a commanding performance with some good support play and clinical finishing against opponents who battled until the final whistle.

Further goals were scored by 3 for Emma Johnson (giving her 4 in the match) 2 more for Marleigh Hornby giving her a deserved hat trick with three superb finishes and one each for Alice Johnson and Tonya Storr. The final whistle blew 3 more points and a 12 nil victory for the Yellows. Another good performance from Mill Lane with substitutes Alice Johnson, Molly Pluves, Jessica Pashby and Chloe Wheeldon showing up well as they push for a starting place in the team.

Man of the match was given to captain Emma Johnson for an energetic performance in central midfield culminating in four goals closely followed by striker Marleigh Hornby for a first hat trick for the team after some brilliant finishing.
