More Praise For Hull After City of Culture 2017 Success

Further praise for Hull’s success at being named City of Culture 2017 continues to come in, , Conductor of the and MP have both congratulated the city on their good news.

Andrew Penny who has been a conductor with the Orchestra  since 1982 said:

“Hull has been a city of culture for me for years and will now be recognised all over the world for it. Music is a language with no international boundaries and the city I was born in has a chance to show that now.”

“The Hull Phil is 130 years old and has been a major contributor to the cultural scene over that time. We were proud to have contributed to the bid with an enterprising and imaginative series of concerts for 2017 and can now start putting our plans in place alongside other promoters.”

“Every meeting I have attended throughout this process, and especially those with Andrew Dixon, have left me feeling more proud of my city, and also proud that so many people, from Hull or not, have worked so hard for us.”

“Congratulations to the Bid Team and the Council for their vision in achieving this; it is up to us now.”

Graham Stuart has hailed Hull’s City of Culture 2017 status as great news for ‘East Yorkshire’ he said;

“Hull has a huge amount of potential and 2017 is an opportunity to showcase all that is great about the city. The accolade of ‘City of Culture’ is not just about attracting visitors and investment to the area but also an opportunity for the people of Hull and surrounding area to further develop their sense of pride in their City.”

“The team leading Hull’s bid should be highly commended for this excellent achievement; it has been a strong bid from the start with good leadership and great use of modern media with the #HullYes campaign.”

and Holderness sits right on the doorstep of the city and my constituents will be celebrating alongside the people of Hull today. The City of Culture status is a well-needed boost for us all and I’m looking forward to a programme of spectacular events when Hull is thrust out of the shadows and into the limelight in 2017.”
