Beverley Wins National Racecourse Award

The Racecourse Association (RCA) has revealed Beverley Racecourse as the winner of the Corporate Social Responsibility category at the annual RCA Showcase & Awards which took place at Lingfield Park Racecourse on Thursday 14 November.

The racecourse’s encouragement of responsible drinking and appropriate behavior at the was deemed by the independent judging panel to be best in class, due to the innovative nature of the event.

The racecourse looked to address the issue of responsible drinking and worked with local mineral water firm Blue Keld to offer free bottles of water to racegoers and developed various ‘zones’ for racegoers to experience.

The Showcase Judges noted that the racecourse demonstrated a pioneering approach to a serious issue and approached it with both flair and innovation whilst working alongside local businesses. As a result of this campaign, the racecourse further improved its standing within the local community and is rightly perceived as an example to follow.

Celebrating excellence and innovation across all areas of racecourse life, the fourth annual Showcase & Awards saw Chester named overall Showcase Champions with Warwick, Beverley Racecourse, Lingfield Park, Goodwood and Cheltenham winning their respective categories.

The team from Kelso Racecourse were named inaugural Groundstaff Champions whilst Aintree won the Racing Post Readers Award that saw racegoers nominate examples of fantastic customer service. The basket of local cheeses given to winning connections at Market Rasen and Nottingham won the @RCAShowcase twitter feed #TopSpot Award.

Beverley Racecourse Manager, Sally Iggulden, said,

“We’re absolutely over the moon to have won at the RCA Awards two years in a row, and continue to strive for excellence and innovation in all that we do.”

RCA Chairman Ian Barlow said;

“It has been fantastic to see the growth of the Showcase Awards over the last four years.”

“Every year the standard of entry has risen which is proof of how hard our racecourses are working to promote our wonderful by providing an excellent day at the races.”
