Beverley To Face East Hull After Progressing In Cup

This was a pleasing performance against a side that only a month ago, Beverley was on the wrong end of a 50 point score line. It ensured the blue and golds passage into the semi-final of the Tom Beautiman Cup where they have been drawn away to East Hull ‘A’. There were a number of standout performances. Ryan Watkin, Ian Lane and man of the match all bossed the game in the middle of the field. was impressive with his go forward, on his return from a brief spell playing Rugby Union.

The match stated with Beverley dominating territory. They took the lead courtesy of a try in the 11th minute. who sported a real shine the next day for his sins went over from the dummy half position for a try too wide out to be improved. S handling following and resulted in Ryan Watkin drawing his man perfectly to send over for a converted try beneath the posts. The handling continued to be good and Ian Lane was heavily influential in sending Ben Calvert over for another try that was improved. The hosts continued to turn the screw and Lane and Coleman combined to send Ryan Watkin over.

The home side went a little off the boil towards the end of the half putting pressure on themselves conceding penalties. A try resulted for the visitors on the stroke of half time.

The try seemed to spur Beverley into action early in the second half, and they soon got the scoreboard ticking over. Quick thinking by Sam Coleman sent Ryan Watkin over for his second try which the extras were added by himself. The forwards undoubtedly made a major contribution to this victory. Daryl Gregory, Nathan Wilkinson, and Joe Wileman all earned their stripes with some strong running. The lead was extended midway through the half courtesy of a spectacular solo try. Ian Lane took the direct from a scrum and showed exceptional pace to round the full back and score.

The visitors pulled back a try, but Beverley were not done yet. More deft handling by Sam Coleman saw him send Ryan Watkin over to complete his hat-trick. Watkin added his sixth conversion of the afternoon to round things off.

This Saturday Beverley return to league action with a fixture at home to Three Tuns. Kick off is 2pm at the Beverley Leisure centre.
