Nicholson Header Stuns Colts As Inter Win The Derby

An Adam Nicholson header ensured Inter Beaver beat local rivals the Humber Colts coming from behind to win the derby.

Nicholson said;

“I am very happy we have the Bragging Rights of Beverley. Fair play to the Colts they made it a great game, but we were stronger all over park.”

Nicholson is more used to stopping goals rather than scoring them, when asked about his header, he told .net;

“Shaun Gibson had the ball on the touch line and managed to swivel then cross it in. I had left Justin Mason for dust and got a header at back post.”

“I don’t often get up that end of the pitch and to score the winner is something else. I am buzzing.”

The Colts went a goal ahead in the first half after a shot from Ben Thompson beat Mike Morris in the Inter goal.

Inter’s captain, Michael O’Connell got the visitors back into to the game when he equalised early in the second half. The next goal soon followed for Inter when Shaun Gibson gave the visitors the lead for the first time during the match.

The Humber Colts then equalised thanks to a goal from Mircea Ciu, who had looked dangerous throughout the match, but it was not to be for the home side when Nicholson headed home securing all three points for Inter.

O’Connell said;

“The best team won. It was a good-tempered game really with no bad tackles or incidents as was expected.”

“We, were easily the better of the two teams today and had it not been for their keeper it could have been a different story.”

Humber Colts assistant manager said after the game;

“This was a great game played between two good sides in the right spirit. I think it could easily of gone either way.”

“Matches like this one are adverts for Sunday league football in Beverley. We look forward to the return fixture.”

Fawcett will be hoping his side can raise their game as they face East Hull in the cup next week, this is the third defeat in a row for the Colts and something he is only too aware of, he said;

“We deserved the lead at half time but thought we let them back into it. All the goals they got today were a result of our own errors.” “Three defeats on the spin is not good for a club of our quality. We need to stop the rot.”

Final Score: Humber Colts 2 Inter Beaver 3
