Detective Inspector who is leading the investigation said:

“This is a concerning report of a bogus social worker dishonestly gaining access to a child. Thankfully, the child was not harmed during this rare incident which we are treating very seriously.

“Our investigation is very much underway and I am appealing to anyone who may have any information which can assist with our investigation to come forward.

“Perhaps you noticed the vehicle or the individuals described in the area at the time? If that is the case please call us on 101 quoting log number 516 of Monday 28 October 2013. I stress that events of this nature are very unusual, however parents can and should exercise vigilance and seek identification from anyone calling at their home – all social workers and health visitors carry identification and will not be offended on any occasion to be asked to produce the relevant documentation.”
