The Friendly Side Of Rugby League

In appalling conditions with swirling wind and rain the who are the undefeated side of the Hull and district league played host to top side currently in Division 1 of the Yorkshire league in a friendly fixture.

The visitors showed their class scoring a great try within the first few minutes to a stunned Beverley team. Despite Dylan Clifford running the ball in strong and hard it was not long before West’s were attacking again. Jay Black made some awesome tackles putting his body on the line time and time again but Hull made an excellent kick through scoring out wide to add further points.

The rain had an impact on the game as mistakes were made by both sides but West Hull continued to dominate running in a further three tries and controlling play until the whistle blew for half time with the score 0 – 28.

With Beverley putting all their energy into defending they would have been forgiven to just run out of steam but every one of the lads dug deep in the second half. Despite many players been smaller in statue than the visitors not one of them shied away from a tackle. Beverley chased kicks and hit the runners hard.

The game was a friendly but there was no lack of commitment from anyone of the Braves. Their fearless play was rewarded as West Hull only ran in one try in the second half. They are definitely an excellent side and deserved the result but this ferocious match was a credit to the resilience of Beverley who do not have the squad numbers at their disposal.

Man of the match deservedly went to Dylan Clifford. All the Braves would like to wish Nick O’Meley (West Hull) every success in the future as he starts his new life in Australia.
