Beverley's Hearts Broken On Final Day Of The Season

Beverley Braves under 11s rounded off their Hull and District season with a strong performance against East Hull. Both teams made several mistakes with the ball in hand, but this did not take away from an exciting game with lots of good skill on show.

It was not until half way through the first half that the deadlock was broken with East Hull scoring under the sticks to make it 6nil. Up until that point, and for the rest of the half, the Braves defence was on top with Oliver Loney, , Henry Hughes and George Bennet-Teare putting in a huge defensive effort.

The reaction to going down one score from the Braves was fantastic, George Lees and took the ball up well and man of the match Tom Marr ensured quick ball from the play the ball.

This allowed half-backs Lewis Egan and Marcus Walker the time to put players outside them into gaps whilst Walker also caused problems with his high kicks in the strong wind. The Braves score came from a Rowbotham chip over the top which full-back William Kirkup won the chase to touch down to make it 6-4 at half-time.

East Hull scored from their first set of six in the second half catching the Braves defence, bolstered by the introduction of Will Sanford and Oliver Gresswell at half time, cold. However, at 10-4 the Braves were still in the game, and they continued to work hard for each other, typified by the contribution of Jack Turner, who replaced the equally hard-working Ewan Morton at half-time.

Dylan English and Harry Newton also played their part in this great team effort and when try machine powered over from acting half-back, there were only 2 points in the game.

A third try for East Hull broke Beverley hearts and despite having their chances, they just could not unlock the opposition defence.
