Dixon Brace Fires Town To Victory

Beverley Town Reserves have moved up to second spot in the East Riding County League Premier Division after fine home win.

Town faced a tough test as they hosted Sculcoates Amateurs Reserves at the Norwood Recreation Ground one they passed with flying colours.

Both goals came from the skipper Matthew Dixon thanks to two first-half strikes ensuring the home side secured all three points.

Manager Ed Grady speaking after the game told HU17.net;

“This was a good win, there are still improvements to be made. Rich Jagger may have thought he looked the part in his white boots, but frankly he simply has all the gear an no idea.”

Grady, however, was full of praise for his defence, he added;

“Olly Thane, the keeper, and the back four did extremely well keeping Scullies at bay. They were class. Whenever it looked like Scullies were going to test us the guys at the back dealt with it.

“Thane is something special. You have to factor in the lad is just 16 years old but plays with great maturity, I was very pleased with his efforts.”

Some players, however, have caught the managers’ attentions for the wrong reason, Grady was not afraid to point the finger at his midfielder Phil Gardener saying;

“Phil showed glimpses of his ability to create chances but needs to spend more time on training pitch perfecting the art of hitting a barn door. Everyone can see he needs to work much harder to improve his fitness levels.”

“On a more serious note this is a decent win we have lots of players to come back into the squad.”

Town return to league action next week with an away match against Goole United who were thrashed 4 – 1 by Walkington this Saturday, if results go their way and Town win they would go top of the league.

Grady said;

“We are looking to build on today’s performance and go into the match against Goole full of confidence.”
