Steaks Are High For Rovers And FC At The Durham Ox

Players from Hull Kingston Rovers and Hull FC enjoyed a night at the Durham OX Beverley on Tuesday.

Graham Horne, Constantine Mika, Cory Patterson, Lincoln Withers, Micky Paea from Rovers and Jacob Miller, Ben Galea and Daniel Holdsworth were all at the Beverley boozer tackling the monster 32oz steak.

The players were invited to tackle the giant steaks by landlord Ian Pollard and the local butcher who supplies the meat Gary Alden.

Gary who has Gary Holden’s Butchers in Hessle said;

“I supply these guys with their meat. They tend to buy chicken and steak. Normally, they go for a 16oz steak from my shop so this is double the size!”

“From time to time I make them Aussie style bangers which they call Snags but most of the time these guys buy healthy cuts of meat and poultry.”

The night was a real challenge in the kitchen for Ian Pollard. Plating up nine steaks with all the trimmings was a real test of his skills, but he got through it.

Each of the steaks came with chips, salad, onion rings and peas, and it was only Hull Kingston Rovers forward Cory Patterson that polished it all off, and still had room for desert.

Ian who is a keen Rover’s fan said;

“Gary and I were talking about rugby, and he said he supplied a number of players from both Hull sides.”

“We hatched a plan and got the lads to come down and try out our 32oz steaks to see who would be able to finish them off.”

The Durham Ox launched their monster 32oz steak back in January; the meal has gone on to be very popular with meat lovers and those who are looking for a challenge.

Players from both teams enjoyed their meal, but Gary failed to finish his steak!

Ian recently retired from rugby league said he loved the night, he added;

“It has been a really good night; it was great to have the lads from both clubs in the pub. They are all big guys. I certainly would not want to tackle them. I would move out the way and just let them go past!”
