Blue & Golds Beaten After Flat Performance Against Haworth

This ‘home’ fixture had to be switched to at short notice due to the Beverley Leisure Centre being unavailable due to .

The blue and golds were a little flat due to a three week lay off and were up against a pacy Haworth Park outfit. They, however, defended well in the opening exchanges managing to keep their opponents scoreless until the twenty-minute mark. The floodgates then opened with Haworth racing to a 22-0 lead.

The strong running Ian Lane then replied for Beverley close to half-time with Watkin adding on the extras. Haworth then added a score right on the stroke of half-time for a 26-6 lead.

The second half was much improved with Beverley keeping Haworth scoreless. Forwards Lee Stevens, Steve Davidson and all ground out the yard yards and took the game to their opponents. At times some good attacking rugby was played with the final pass which would have perhaps resulted in a score often going to ground.

Centre Ben Calvert looked the most dangerous of the Beverley backs. Ryan Watkin added a deserved late consolation try for Beverley, following a sustained spell of pressure due to Beverley being awarded a string of penalties for high shots. Watkin added on the extras to complete the afternoons scoring.

The blue and gold are away to Bilton Sully’s in the semi-final of the Ray Speckman Memorial Cup as they look to finish the season on a high. Kick off is 2pm at the Bilton Memorial Playing Fields.

Final Score : 12 Haworth Park 26 | Reported by Nick Robinson
