Whitestar Knocked Out Of Cup Brandesburton

After yet another three-week lay off due to weather, Whitestar finally returned to action in the County Cup (Chairmans Cup). The game was scheduled to be at , but the weather had backed up so many games; it was agreed to move to North Froddingham.

The game started with Whitestar passing well and making Brandesburton chase the ball. After a number of squandered chances, a shot/cross form the left caught the wind and beat the stand in keeper Alex Hawkesley (usually up front) at the near post. This lifted Brandesburton and before long; they started to get the upper hand. A second from the home team, settled them into a rhythm and with the wind, literally in their sails, add their third just before half time.

Desperate times call for desperate action. All three subs were made for the restart, and with Jack Harrison being moved from Left Back to Striker, things appeared to be working. A rejuvenated Whitestar soon had the ball in the Brandesburton net after a battling Harrison forced the ball home.

Whitestar went on to have a number of great chances before what could only be described as ball watching, saw a solitary Brandesburton player dribble through the midfield and defence before taking an unpressured shot. With the score now 4 -1, Whitestar were back where the half had started. Persistence pays off.

However, some great work down the right saw Matty Morgan and Harry McGowan linking up well before delivering a high ball into the area. Jack Harrison, enjoying his chance up front, attacked the ball and rising above the defenders headed it passed a stranded keeper to give Whitestar their second and a foothold in the game once again.

The remainder of the game was 50 -50 with both sides not wanting to concede again. As luck would have it, it was Whitestar that lost out and a fifth for Brandesburton sealed victory and progression in to the next round.

Whitestar would like to thank Mike Hann of North Froddingham for the use of their facilities and the Ref (L Hinchcliffe) who had a great game.

Final Score : Brandesburton FC 5 – 2 FC
