United Make It Ten In Row With Victory At Ferriby

Mill Lane United Yellows maintained their unbeaten league record with their 10th successive victory against in the East Riding Girls League.

The yellows were quickest out of the blocks led by midfielder in her first game in two months and took the lead on 5 minutes when a superb through ball from Smith found winger charging into the area, and a right foot shot gave the keeper no chance.

Almost immediately Mill Lane United scored a second with a 80-yard move from their own goal mouth. Good distribution by Lea Shalgosky in the yellows’ goal found Smith in space, quickly getting the ball under control and racing 25yards before a slide rule pass found striker Grace Fletcher, who slotted the ball home with a clinical right foot finish.

Two nil down in ten minutes North Ferriby could have thrown the towel in against their high-flying opponents, but credit to them as they competed for every ball and made Mill Lane United fight tooth and nail for possession.

With Natasha Franklin, Beatrice Wood and Emily Cloutier showing up well chances were been created at both ends even though wintry conditions were making life difficult for both teams, but it was the Beverley side that increased their lead when a corner from Charlotte Holliday was not cleared by the Ferriby defence leaving a simple tap in for Morgan Nagee to make the score 3 – 0.

For Mill Lane United defenders Courtney McConville and Amy Radford were working overtime as North Ferriby piled on the pressure, and Ferriby scored a deserved goal after a corner was not cleared by the Yellows and a fine shot gave no chance in the Mill Lane United goal to make the half time score 3 -1.

The second half resulted in 3 more goals to Mill Lane United from Emma Smith, Emma Johnson and a second of the game from Morgasn Nagee to make the score 6-1 to the Beverley side. In very cold blustery conditions and playing their first game for a number of weeks both teams can be congratulated for a very entertaining game with no quarter asked or given.

For North Ferrby, a performance of guts and determination against a Mill Lane United side that just had that extra bit of composure in front of goal.

Performance wise for the yellows Shalgosky made several excellent saves when the pressure was on, defensively man of the matches Courtney McConville and Amy Radford were outstanding throughout and ably assisted by midfielder duo Emma Smith and Emma Johnson, whose vision and passing were superb, particularly in a dominant first 15 minutes and striker Grace Fletcher, who worked hard for the full 80 minutes.
