Beverley’s Sweet Surprise For Women’s Rights

Oxfam Beverley is calling for in the town to join them for a mouth-watering event for their Get Together campaign.

Get Together raises life saving funds for Oxfam’s work with women who are experiencing poverty, discrimination and domestic violence.

Supporters are invited to hold fundraisers during the week on International Women’s Day (8th March). All the money raised goes to Oxfam’s women’s projects around the world.

Chocolatier Claire Strawbridge will give the people of Beverley a taste of the type of ‘Get Together’ events that they could hold with their friends around International Women’s Day.

The chocolate tasting event will be held in the Oxfam shop on Tuesday 12th February from 6.00pm- 7.30pm.

Claire Strawbridge, who owns Café Lempicka in Beverley, will be showing some of the town fine chocolate products. She said:

“This will be a great opportunity to find out more about Get Together and support Oxfam at the same time. It promises to be a fantastic event with chocolate samples being served! Feel free to come alone or bring your friends; you’re sure of a warm and tasty welcome!”

Oxfam shop manager John Paden:

“It is great to have Claire on board to promote Get Together in Beverly. The majority of people living in poverty are women. Get Together raises money for Oxfam’s work and it helps women reclaim their rights and make their voices heard; from helping girls access schools in Burkina Faso to supporting women farmers in Ethiopia to become entrepreneurs and provide for their families”.

Harriet Roberts, Oxfam community fundraiser in the North West, says:

“An Oxfam Get Together can be absolutely anything; from cocktails or a movie night at home, to a killer quiz with colleagues or even a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. We want to encourage as many as possible to take inspiration and organise their glamorous Get Together”.
